Senegal Parrots are highly intelligent birds, making them excellent candidates for learning a variety of tricks. One of the first and simplest tricks to teach is the “step up” command, where the parrot steps onto your hand or a perch. A popular trick to teach Senegal Parrots is “wave.” To do this, hold out your hand as if you’re asking the bird to step up, but as they lift one foot, don’t let them step onto your hand. Instead, reward them with a treat or praise for lifting their foot, which mimics a wave. Another fun trick is teaching your parrot to “turn around” on command. Hold a treat and slowly guide the bird to spin in a circle, giving the treat when they complete the turn. Repeating these steps several times during short training sessions will help them learn the motion.

Senegal Parrots can also learn to retrieve objects. Start by teaching them to pick up small items and bring them to you. Reward the bird each time they successfully pick up an object and bring it to your hand. This trick can be expanded to include placing objects in specific locations, such as putting a small ball in a cup. Keep training sessions short, no more than 10-15 minutes, to maintain the bird’s interest and avoid frustration.
