Providing appropriate housing for a Senegal Parrot is essential to ensure its well-being and happiness. The cage should be spacious enough to allow the bird to move freely, stretch its wings, and engage in natural behaviors like climbing and playing. At a minimum, the cage should be 20 inches wide, 20 inches deep, and 28 inches tall, but larger cages are always better. Senegal Parrots are active birds that require both vertical and horizontal space to explore. Make sure the cage bars are no more than ¾ inch apart to prevent any potential injuries or escapes.

Inside the cage, you should include various perches made from natural wood, which help exercise their feet and provide opportunities for chewing, a natural behavior for parrots. It’s also important to include a variety of toys to keep them mentally stimulated, such as puzzle toys, chew toys, and swings. Regularly rotating toys can prevent boredom, as Senegal Parrots are intelligent and need activities that engage their minds. The cage should be placed in a well-lit area but away from direct sunlight, drafts, or excessive noise to create a comfortable and safe environment.

In addition to their cage, Senegal Parrots need out-of-cage time for exercise and social interaction. Allowing them to fly in a bird-safe room for a few hours each day can help maintain their physical health and reduce boredom. Make sure the environment is free from potential hazards such as open windows, mirrors, or toxic plants.
