Panda Cory tips

Caring for Panda Corydoras, or Panda Corys, can be a rewarding experience, but it’s important to follow a few key tips to ensure they thrive in your aquarium. First and foremost, always keep Panda Corys in groups of at least five or six. These social fish are happiest when they can interact with their own kind, displaying natural behaviors like shoaling and foraging together. A 20-gallon tank is a good minimum size to accommodate a small group, providing them with enough space to explore and live comfortably.

When setting up the tank, choose a soft, sandy substrate. Panda Corys spend much of their time foraging along the bottom, and rough or sharp substrates can damage their sensitive barbels, leading to health issues. Additionally, provide plenty of hiding spots using decorations like driftwood, caves, and plants. These features not only make the environment more natural but also give the fish places to retreat when they feel stressed. Ensuring good water quality is crucial; maintain a stable pH between 6.0 and 7.5 and a temperature between 72°F and 78°F (22°C to 26°C). Regular water changes are essential to keeping the tank environment healthy.

Feeding your Panda Corys a varied diet is another important tip. While they will readily eat high-quality sinking pellets, supplementing their diet with live or frozen foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia will ensure they receive all the necessary nutrients. It’s also a good idea to observe feeding times to make sure they are getting enough food, especially in a community tank where more aggressive feeders might dominate. Lastly, monitor your Panda Corys for signs of stress or illness, such as changes in behavior or appearance. Prompt attention to any issues will help keep your Panda Corys healthy and vibrant, ensuring they remain a delightful part of your aquarium for years to come.
