Kuvasz history

The Kuvasz is one of the oldest dog breeds, with a history that traces back to ancient times. Originally bred in Hungary, this breed’s roots are believed to extend as far back as the time of the Magyar tribes who brought these dogs with them when they settled in the Carpathian Basin around the 9th century. The Kuvasz was highly valued by Hungarian nobility for its loyalty, strength, and protective instincts, making it a favored guardian of both livestock and property. These dogs were not only protectors of flocks but also served as personal bodyguards for kings and nobles, most notably during the reign of King Matthias I of Hungary in the 15th century.

Throughout history, the Kuvasz maintained its reputation as a reliable guardian, particularly in rural areas where livestock needed protection from predators like wolves and bears.
