Kaninchen Dachshund

The Kaninchen Dachshund, also known as the Rabbit Dachshund, is a smaller variant of the standard Dachshund, specifically bred for hunting small game such as rabbits. Originating in Germany, this breed was developed to be agile and compact, allowing it to follow rabbits into their burrows. The Kaninchen Dachshund shares the same general traits as other Dachshunds, including a long body, short legs, and a spirited personality, but it is distinguished by its smaller size, typically weighing between 8 to 10 pounds (3.5 to 4.5 kilograms).

Despite their small stature, Kaninchen Dachshunds are known for their bold and confident nature. They are intelligent and curious, often displaying a strong sense of independence. These traits make them both delightful companions and challenging to train at times. Kaninchen Dachshunds come in three coat types: smooth, wirehaired, and longhaired, each with its own grooming requirements. Regular exercise is essential to keep them healthy and prevent obesity, which can exacerbate their natural predisposition to back problems, such as Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD). Providing them with plenty of mental stimulation, such as puzzle toys and scent games, can also help keep them happy and engaged.
