Corydoras panda

The Corydoras panda, also known as the Panda Cory, is a popular and charming species of freshwater catfish named for its distinctive black and white markings that resemble a panda. Native to the rivers of Peru, these small, peaceful fish are an excellent choice for community aquariums. They are social creatures that thrive in groups, so it’s recommended to keep them in schools of at least five or six. Panda Corys are relatively easy to care for, making them suitable for both novice and experienced aquarists. They prefer a tank with soft, slightly acidic to neutral water, with temperatures ranging from 72°F to 78°F (22°C to 26°C).

The Panda Cory is a bottom-dweller, spending most of its time foraging along the substrate for food. To ensure their health and comfort, a smooth, sandy substrate is ideal to prevent damage to their sensitive barbels. The tank should also include plenty of hiding spots, such as caves, driftwood, and plants, where they can retreat and feel secure. A varied diet consisting of high-quality sinking pellets, supplemented with live or frozen foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp, will keep them healthy and active. Regular partial water changes are essential to maintain water quality, as Panda Corys are sensitive to poor conditions.

In addition to their charming appearance, Panda Corys are known for their playful and active nature. They often dart to the surface to take a gulp of air, a behavior linked to their ability to breathe atmospheric oxygen, which is entirely normal. Their gentle temperament makes them compatible with a wide range of other peaceful fish, making them a delightful addition to any community tank. With proper care, Panda Corys can live for several years, providing endless enjoyment to their owners.
