Corydoras care guide

Caring for Corydoras catfish is relatively easy, making them an excellent choice for both beginner and experienced aquarists. These small, peaceful fish thrive in well-maintained community tanks with stable water conditions. A tank size of at least 20 gallons is recommended, as Corydoras are social fish and should be kept in groups of at least five or six. They prefer soft, slightly acidic to neutral water with temperatures between 72°F and 78°F (22°C to 26°C). A smooth, sandy substrate is ideal, as Corydoras like to forage along the tank bottom, and rough substrates can damage their sensitive barbels.

When setting up a tank for Corydoras, it’s important to include plenty of hiding spots, such as caves, driftwood, and dense plants. These provide shelter and help the fish feel secure. Corydoras are bottom feeders, so a varied diet of sinking pellets, frozen or live foods like bloodworms, and occasional vegetables will keep them healthy and active. Regular partial water changes are crucial to maintaining good water quality, as Corydoras are sensitive to poor water conditions. Additionally, their ability to breathe atmospheric oxygen means they occasionally dart to the surface for air, so ensuring good aeration in the tank is beneficial. By providing a clean, well-structured environment and a proper diet, you can enjoy the playful and engaging behavior of Corydoras for years to come.
